Analyzing Illegal Firearms to Suppress Gun Violence
The BC Provincial Forensic Firearms Laboratory (BC-PFFL) is a cutting-edge facility dedicated to helping law enforcement combat gun violence and organized crime across the province. Established under the Organized Crime Agency of British Columbia (OCABC), BC-PFFL provides specialized forensic analyses of firearms and firearms-related exhibits used in criminal offences and provides data or information to generate forensic intelligence. The ballistic evidence and intelligence is used to advance investigations, unveil organized crime networks and support the administration of justice.
Since its opening, the BC-PFFL has been instrumental in examining firearms linked to gang violence and organized crime, which has helped law enforcement agencies make critical arrests and secure convictions. Funded through the federal Guns and Gangs Violence Action Fund, the lab plays a central role in BC’s Gang Suppression Action Plan.
