Investigating and Analyzing Firearms to Combat Crime
The Crime Guns Intelligence and Investigations Group (CGIIG), part of CFSEU-BC, plays a critical role in analyzing and disrupting illegal firearms activities that fuel organized crime and violence across British Columbia. CGIIG is comprised of specialized teams, including the Illegal Firearms Enforcement Team (IFET), the Illegal Firearms Intelligence Team (IFIT), and the BC Provincial Forensic Firearms Laboratory (BCPFFL). Together, these teams conduct comprehensive investigations, identify emerging trends and analyze firearms-related evidence. In turn, they support law enforcement operations targeting the trafficking, manufacturing, and use of illegal firearms, and the administration of justice.
Through collaboration with national and international partners, CGIIG helps to track the movement of firearms, build comprehensive intelligence-driven strategies, and dismantle criminal networks engaged in the illegal firearms trade, including the growing threat of privately manufacturing 3D-printed firearms.
