Employee Profile: Cst. Shawn Courtorielle
Cst. Shawn Courtorielle was born and raised in Northern Alberta and brings over 26 years of policing experience to CFSEU-BC. A retired Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) officer, Shawn began his career in 1999 with his first posting in Burns Lake, British Columbia.
Throughout his career, Shawn gained extensive experience in General Duty policing, served as a Federal Air Marshal, and worked in Recruiting. He also spent 12 years with the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit of British Columbia (CFSEU-BC), contributing to several specialized teams including the Uniform Gang Enforcement Team (UGET), the Investigative Team, and the Joint Illegal Gaming Investigation Team (JIGIT). Shawn has recently returned to CFSEU-BC as an Organized Crime Agency of British Columbia (OCA-BC) police officer.
Policing is a family tradition for Shawn. His father and brother both retired from the RCMP, and his partner currently serves as a police officer with the Burnaby RCMP. Shawn and his partner also share their home with two pet dogs, Easton and Wilson.
Shawn is Indigenous and identifies as Métis, a distinct people with both European and Indigenous ancestry. During his time in Burns Lake, he strengthened his connection to his culture through local Indigenous gatherings and community events. One of Shawn’s favourite Indigenous foods is his Auntie Margaret’s bannock (fry bread).
Outside of policing, Shawn has always been passionate about sports. He has excelled in hockey, volleyball, baseball, softball, gymnastics, and curling, both as a player and coach. Shawn has been curling for 38 years and currently plays in three competitive leagues.
With a strong background in community policing and coaching, Shawn is dedicated to supporting others and making a meaningful difference. In his new role as the End Gang Life Coordinator, he is excited to build stronger relationships with CFSEU-BC partners and communities, while providing education, awareness, and support to youth and educators across British Columbia.
