This statement explains what personal information may be collected when you use cfseu.bc.ca, why it is collected, how it may be used and disclosed, and the choices available to you.
1. Scope
The Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit British Columbia (CFSEU-BC, we, us or our) is committed to respecting your privacy. This statement applies to cfseu.bc.ca and to website systems and services under CFSEU-BC’s control, collectively referred to as the Website.
Some forms, reporting options, embedded content and linked services may be operated by a participating police agency or another service provider. A separate privacy or collection notice may apply to those services. If a separate notice conflicts with this statement, that notice applies to the specific service.
2. What Personal Information Means
Personal information is recorded information about an identifiable individual. It may include a name, contact information, an IP address, device or online identifiers, the content of a message, and other information that can identify a person on its own or when combined with other information.

A form that collects personal information should provide a collection notice describing its purpose, legal authority and a contact for questions. Do not send sensitive operational information through ordinary email or a general contact form when a specific reporting method is available. If there is an immediate threat to life or safety, call 911.
6. How We Use Personal Information
CFSEU-BC and authorized participating agencies may use personal information to:
- operate, maintain, secure and improve the Website;
- respond to questions, requests, feedback or submissions;
- administer a program, service, event or public-safety initiative;
- receive and assess information submitted through an authorized reporting channel;
- detect, investigate and respond to security incidents or unauthorized activity;
- produce aggregate statistics and evaluate online services; and
- meet legal, records-management, accountability and law-enforcement requirements.
Personal information is used only for the purpose for which it was collected, for a use consistent with that purpose, with valid consent where applicable, or as otherwise authorized by law.
7. Legal Authority
CFSEU-BC and participating agencies collect personal information only when authorized by applicable law. Where British Columbia’s Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act applies, authority may include section 26(b) for law-enforcement purposes, section 26(c) where information is directly related to and necessary for a program or activity, or section 26(e) for program planning or evaluation. The authority for a particular form or service should be identified in its collection notice.

8. Disclosure and Service Providers
We do not sell or rent personal information. Information may be disclosed to authorized CFSEU-BC personnel, participating agencies or service providers when necessary for the purpose for which it was collected, to operate or secure the Website, or as otherwise authorized or required by law.
Service providers may support website hosting, security, communications, analytics, forms or technical maintenance. They are expected to handle personal information only for authorized purposes and under applicable privacy, security and contractual requirements. Personal information may also be disclosed in response to a warrant, subpoena, court order or other lawful authority, or when permitted by law to address a serious threat to health or safety.

Personal information may be stored or processed by CFSEU-BC, a participating agency or an authorized service provider. If information is processed outside Canada, it may be subject to the laws of that location. Any disclosure outside Canada must be made in accordance with the privacy law that applies to the information and with appropriate safeguards.

We use reasonable administrative, technical and physical safeguards designed to protect personal information against unauthorized collection, access, use, disclosure, alteration, loss or disposal. Access is limited to people who need the information for an authorized purpose. No method of transmitting or storing information is completely secure, so privacy and security cannot be guaranteed.
11. Retention and Disposal
Personal information is retained only as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it was collected and to meet legal, operational, audit, investigation and records-management requirements. Retention periods vary by the type of record and the agency that has custody or control. Information is securely disposed of or de-identified when authorized retention requirements have been met.
12. Access and Correction
You may have the right to request access to personal information about you and to ask that inaccurate or incomplete information be corrected or annotated. The appropriate process depends on which public body or agency has custody or control of the record. We may ask for information needed to verify your identity and locate the record.
13. External Websites and Social Media
The Website may link to external websites, social-media platforms or embedded services that CFSEU-BC does not control. Their privacy policies and terms apply when you use those services. Review the relevant privacy information before providing personal information to a third party.
14. Changes to This Statement
We may update this statement to reflect changes to the Website, technology, practices or legal requirements. The revised statement takes effect when posted unless a later date is stated. The date at the top shows when it was last updated.
