Six charges approved following CFSEU-BC UGET investigation

The Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit of British Columbia’s (CFSEU-BC) Uniform Gang Enforcement Team (UGET) has secured six charges against a Surrey man following an investigation that led to the seizure of significant quantities of drugs and cash.

On August 24, 2024, UGET officers attempted a traffic stop in Maple Ridge involving a vehicle known to have previously evaded police. The driver fled on foot but was quickly arrested. A search of the suspect and vehicle led to the seizure of:

• 1.157 kilograms of fentanyl
• 790 grams of cocaine
• 337 grams of methamphetamine
• 1.93 kilograms of buffing/cutting agent containing phenothiazine
• 26 grams of pills containing buprenorphine
• $40,085 in cash
• A Dodge Durango

On August 15, 2025, the BC Prosecution Services of Canada approved six charges against 31-year-old Nawfal Maher of Surrey, including:

• Three counts of possession for the purposes of trafficking fentanyl
• One count of possession for the purposes of trafficking cocaine
• One count of possession for the purposes of trafficking methamphetamine
• One count of flight from police

Maher was arrested and later released on strict conditions, including a nightly curfew from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.

“This investigation highlights the proactive work of our Uniform Gang Enforcement Team, who are strategically deployed to disrupt gang activity before it escalates,” said Cpl. Sarbjit K. Sangha, Media Relations Officer of CFSEU-BC. “By taking harmful drugs and illicit cash off the street, UGET sends a clear message that drug traffickers will face enforcement and accountability”.
