The Gang Intervention & Exiting Team (GIET) supports CFSEU-BC by providing intervention services and supports to individuals ages 12 and up in the Lower Mainland who are engaged in gang-related activity and are committed to exiting gang life.

The GIET bridges traditional policing with social support by embedding civilian case managers alongside police officers.

This collaborative model:
✓ Engages individuals before they become entrenched in serious or violent crime
✓ Builds trust through non-enforcement outreach, allowing for earlier and more meaningful connections and mentorship opportunities
✓ Addresses root causes of gang involvement—such as trauma, lack of opportunity, or social isolation—by connecting participants to long-term support
✓ Involves families and communities to interrupt the pathway to gang involvement by reinforcing safety and accountability beyond the justice system
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:
✓ Conduct Targeted Outreach to individuals at risk or actively involved gang-related activity
✓ Engage in Early Intervention to prevent deeper involvement in organized crime
✓ Coordinate Support Services such as counselling, housing, employment, education, mental health, and addiction resources
✓ Develop Personalized Case Management Plans tailored to each participant’s needs and goals
✓ Provide Safety Planning to reduce immediate risks to individuals and their families
✓ Maintain Ongoing Case Management to support long-term disengagement from gang life
✓ Collaborate with Families to create a stable and supportive environment
✓ Work Alongside Local and Provincial Law Enforcement to ensure community safety through non-enforcement strategies
✓ Build Partnerships with stakeholders, schools, community organizations, and service providers
✓ Conduct Community Outreach and maintain a visible, supportive presence within the community.
✓ Attend Community Events to build trust and increase program visibility
✓ Provide Workshops and Training to community partners, social service providers, and stakeholders to increase awareness and build capacity in gang prevention and intervention
