Vehicle Stop Leads to Dangerous Driving Arrest and Charges

One man has been charged with multiple driving-related offences and had his parole revoked after being arrested on March 3rd by the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit of British Columbia’s (CFSEU-BC) Uniform Gang Enforcement Team (UGET), with the assistance of the Abbotsford Police Department and the RCMP’s Air 1 helicopter.

On the afternoon of Thursday, March 3rd, 2022, CFSEU-BC UGET members were in Abbotsford conducting proactive enforcement patrols when they attempted to stop a vehicle for driving-related offences.

The vehicle accelerated away at a high rate of speed, through a busy shopping mall parking lot, nearly colliding with other vehicles. Police did not pursue the vehicle; however, the Air 1 police helicopter was able to track it from above to Chilliwack where the driver was taken into custody with the assistance of the Abbotsford Police.

Joseph Edward Zaworski, 42-years-old, was arrested and has been charged with one count of Flight from Police, one count of Obstructing a Peace Officer, one count of Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, and one count of Driving While Disqualified.

Zaworski was also on parole at the time of his arrest for Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle and Dangerous Driving Causing Death. His parole has been revoked and he has been remanded in custody with a next appearance date set for April 4th.

“CFSEU-BC’s Uniform Gang Enforcement Team members work closely with our police partners regardless of whether it is disrupting and suppressing violent gang-related activities or taking dangerous drivers off the roads. The ability of agencies and units to coordinate and communicate with each other when an incident arises allows police to ensure that we have the right units in the right place,” says Superintendent Alison Laurin, Deputy Operations Support Officer for CFSEU-BC.

CFSEU-BC would like to thank the RCMP’s Air 1 helicopter and crew and the Abbotsford Police for their assistance.
