Working within the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit – BC (CFSEU-BC), British Columbia’s integrated anti-gang police agency, the Organized Crime Agency of BC (OCABC) is recruiting for a Data Analyst to provide accurate and timely performance measures and reporting to senior management, and other key stakeholders, in support of CFSEU-BC’s Strategic Plan.

Working under the direct supervision of the Director of Executive Services, this position will be responsible for:

• Collecting, entering, extracting, collating, analyzing and interpreting operational and non-operational police data in support of the assigned area of responsibility
• Managing, maintaining, and updating large datasets, transferring data between programs/systems, and using the data to support operational and business decisions
• Performing audits and reviewing data for quality assurance in assigned business line(s)
• Summarizing data to create clear and concise written reports, using visualization tools and dashboards to present data analyses
• Providing support by gathering and organizing information from subject matter experts to prepare briefing notes
• Identifying innovative ways to define and capture performance metrics for assigned business line(s)
• Accessing data sources, evaluating the strengths and weaknesses of collection methods and tools, determining statistical assumptions, and trouble-shooting data to ensure its integrity and quality
• Developing and maintaining relationships with OCABC / CFSEU-BC staff, external stakeholders as well as partner agencies
• Preparing data for vetting and privacy considerations by the Director, Executive Services in order to support external requests
• Attending meetings, working groups, and committees to advance areas of responsibility
• Conducting strategic and operational analyses in support of assigned area of responsibility, with the objective of identifying systematic data problems and strategic opportunities
• Supporting the implementation of performance measures and the link between performance metrics and strategy, in alignment with CFSEU-BC Strategic Plan
• Other analytical duties, as assigned

We are looking for enthusiastic self-starters who can work under pressure and stress with the ability to handle crisis/intervention with the following qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field (i.e. Criminology, Business, Computer Science, etc.) OR a combination of a diploma/associate degree and 5+ years of relevant experience may be considered
• Minimum 2-3 years of related experience, preferably in a public safety environment
• Work or academic experience analyzing information and preparing written reports or visualizations
• Experience with computer software, including Microsoft Word and Excel
• Experience with data visualization/dashboard software would be an asset (Tableau, Power BI)
• Experience in using police databases or working in a police environment would be an asset
• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
• Strong analytical, report writing, and data visualization skills
• Ability to multi-task effectively
• Attention to detail and accuracy
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment
• Demonstrated ability to conduct statistical analysis and process large volumes of data
• Working knowledge of the Canadian criminal justice system, rules of evidence, case law related to disclosure and police investigative techniques, would be an asset
• Knowledge of the organized crime/gang landscape of British Columbia, would be an asset
• Ability to obtain and maintain a RCMP police security clearance. Candidates with an active RCMP clearance would be an asset

Annual Salary: $80,964.00– $84,181.50 — $87,399.00 — $90,597.00 — $93,814.50

This is a civilian unionized position with CUPE 718, working 37.50 hours per week. Rates negotiated in the new collective agreement with CUPE 718 will be applied to the current annual salary effective April 1, 2025.
This position requires in-office attendance.

A pool of candidates may be established to staff additional positions in the future.
