Working within the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit – BC (CFSEU-BC), the Organized Crime Agency (OCABC) is recruiting a hard-working, self-motivated candidate for a Forensic Technologist position at the BC Provincial Forensic Firearms Laboratory. Reporting to the Laboratory Manager, the Technologist will be responsible for the development, implementation and supervision of Integrated Ballistics Identification System (IBIS) operations in British Columbia. Duties will include, but are not limited to:

• Providing metrics and assisting the Laboratory Manager in the overall development of IBIS-related operations
• Preparing a training guide for IBIS Technologists, training and supervision
• Researching and establishing best policies and procedures for IBIS and Cadre TopMatch-3D triaging processes
• Performing validation studies, calibrations and quality control checks on IBIS, Cadre TopMatch-3D and related
imaging systems
• Maintaining proficiency in the use of IBIS, Cadre TopMatch-3D and other related imaging technologies
• Coordinating with equipment vendors on repairs and maintaining a service schedule for all scientific instruments
and lab equipment
• Monitoring, maintaining and troubleshooting technical issues for IBIS, Cadre TopMatch-3D and other related
imaging equipment and for laboratory software programs
• Collaborating with users and coordinators of the Canadian Integrated Ballistics Identification Network (CIBIN) and
government agencies to support standardization and improvement of IBIS services
• Conducting IBIS acquisitions, correlations, technical reviews and administrative reviews
• Preparing, performing and evaluating batched cartridge case scans using Cadre TopMatch-3D technology
• Documenting findings and presenting expert testimony in court on exhibit handling, continuity and analyses
• Training of internal and external clients

We are looking for a strong team player with a great attitude, and the following qualifications:

• Completion of high school education. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university is preferred
• Completion of an IBIS Technologist training program facilitated by a forensic laboratory or Ultra Forensic

Technology and minimum three years of laboratory experience as a qualified IBIS Technologist or a combination
of education and related experience would be considered

• Knowledge using Excel, PowerPoint, Word and Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)
• Extensive knowledge of forensic firearm and tool mark laboratory methods, terminology and equipment
• Ability to advise law enforcement user agencies, Firearms Specialists and Technologists on submission criteria
• Ability to implement a logical workflow for IBIS exhibits and inventory stored samples
• Ability to acquire quality images of fired cartridge cases using IBIS BrassTrax
• Ability to interpret correlation results using IBIS MatchPoint and locate hits given highly variable samples
• Ability to conduct technical and administrative reviews of work performed by other IBIS Technologists
• Ability to write clear and concise technical documents, and articulate scientific information and/or expert opinion to
investigators and the Courts
• Ability to maintain positive working relationship with internal and external clients
• Ability to obtain and maintain a RCMP security clearance

Annual Salary (37.50 hours/week): $82,829 – $86,142 – $89,455 – $92,769 – $96,082
