INFORMATION OFFICER

Multiple Permanent, Full-Time Positions – Criminal Record Review Unit (CRRU) – Victoria, BC

Working within the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit – BC (CFSEU-BC), the Organized Crime Agency of BC (OCABC) is recruiting hard-working, self-motivated candidates to process and conduct checks in support of the risk assessment process to meet legislative requirements for the Cannabis Control and Licensing Act, the Criminal Records Review Act, the Ministry of Child and Family Development, the Security Services Act, the Body Armour Control Act, the Armoured Vehicle and After-Market Compartment Control Act and for the Personnel Security Screening Office.

Reporting to the CRRU Team Coordinator, the Information Officer will perform Criminal Records Checks to determine suitability for employment, licensing and/or permitting purposes. These will be conducted based on the BC Police Information Check (BC-PIC) guidelines and the respective criteria set for each industry/Ministry as interpreted by legislation and/or policy and dissemination will be in accordance with RCMP policy, Privacy Act, CPIC and PRIME guidelines. The Information Officer will be responsible to:

  • Review and analyze detailed investigative reports within CRRU databases to assist the process of suitability determination by Provincial Clients.
  • Produce an analysis of applicant information from police systems (PRIME, PROS, PIRS, CPIC, PIP, etc.)
  • Communicate with law enforcement agencies to confirm findings and seek approval to utilize information found within police systems
  • Manage sensitive and potentially contentious issues and escalate as needed
  • Perform other related duties, as required

We are looking for a strong team player with a great attitude and the following qualifications:

  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in a related field of study or a combination of education and related experience may be considered
  • Minimum 1 – 3 years as a sworn police officer working within a law enforcement environment
  • Knowledge of BC Provincial and Canadian Federal privacy laws (BC Freedom of Information and Privacy Act and the Privacy Act) and the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
  • Knowledge of the British Columbia Guideline for Police Information Checks (BC-PIC) and a strong understanding of the sharing of information.
  • Experience working with data mining CPIC, PRIME, PIRS, PROS and other law enforcement databases is an asset
  • Ability to research, review and accurately summarize and collate information from a variety of sources
  • Demonstrated sound judgement, integrity and dependability
  • Solid organization skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks concurrently
  • Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills with the ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with internal/external clients
  • Ability to work with computers and office technology
  • Ability to obtain and maintain an RCMP security clearance

 

Annual Salary: $80,964.00 – $84,181.50 – $87,399.00 – $90,597.00 – $93,814.50
