Payroll Coordinator – Permanent, Full-Time Position **Job Expires on Jan 9th 2025**
Reporting to both the Manager, Human Resources and the Payroll Supervisor, this position will be responsible for:
• Assisting the Payroll Supervisor with running full cycle payroll through the Human Resource Information System (HRIS) StarGarden in an accurate and timely manger, on a bi weekly basis, for unionized and exempt employees
• Calculating, verifying and reconciling time submissions and payroll functions in accordance with the respective collective agreements and OCABC policy
• Managing and administering the time card function in StarGarden, or similar HRIS/payroll system
• Ensuring payroll is processed in compliance with current tax and payroll legislation
• Processing and maintaining accurate payroll records
• Providing exemplary support, guidance and interpretation to employees and mangers by responding to inquiries in relation to payroll, time submissions and payroll discrepancies
• Liaising with the Payroll Supervisor and Human Resources to ensure payroll’s timely implementation of all agreed employee compensation
• Tracking and preparing various calculations for payroll (i.e. entitlements and eligibility for benefits, vacation, sick leave, pension entitlement, etc.)
• Assisting the Payroll Supervisor with various payroll remittances, leave calculations, year-end reconciliations, Municipal Pension Plan administration, etc.
• Overseeing employee balance and accrual setups in the HRIS/payroll system
• Providing reports to the Human Resources and the Senior Management Team, when requested
• Other duties, as assigned
We are looking for a committed team player with excellent customer service, solid interpersonal skills, a great attitude and the following qualifications:
• Post-secondary certificate or diploma in Payroll. Significant experience in payroll will be considered.
• Minimum of 3 years full cycle payroll experience
• National Payroll Institute PCP certification complete, or in progress, would be an asset
• Strong working knowledge of payroll processes and legislation, the Employment Standards Act, WorkSafe BC regulations, Municipal Pension Corporation and benefits carriers
• Demonstrated attention to detail and accuracy
• Demonstrated sound judgement, integrity and dependability
• Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills
• Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality, tact and diplomacy when dealing with sensitive and confidential matters
• Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
• Experience working with an HRIS system would be an asset
• Experience working in a unionized and/or police environment would be an asset
• Ability to obtain and maintain a RCMP security clearance
Annual Salary: $76,752.00 – $79,794.00 – $82,855.50 – $85,878.00 – $88,939.50
This is a union exempt position working 37.5 hours per week and requires in-office attendance. A pool of candidates may be established to staff additional positions in the future.
