Criminal Record Review Unit (CRRU) – Victoria Region

Working within the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit – BC (CFSEU-BC), British Columbia’s integrated anti-gang police agency, the Organized Crime Agency of BC (OCABC) is recruiting a hard-working, self-motivated candidate to process and conduct checks in support of the risk assessment process to meet legislative requirements of provincial and federal acts.

 

Reporting to the Team Coordinator, this position will be responsible for:

  • Reviewing and analyzing detailed investigative reports within the CRRU database to assess the recommendations to provincial clients regarding risk of suitability
  • Producing an analysis of available information from police systems (CPIC, PRIME, PIRS, PROS, etc.) about applicants, enabling client departments to accept or reject them for the specific function they have listed on their application. The analysis supports provincial departmental efforts to prevent the infiltration by criminal elements who may seek to further their enterprises or engage in other acts that may threaten public safety
  • Communicating with law enforcement agencies to confirm findings and seek approval to utilize the information found within the police systems
  • Managing sensitive and potentially contentious issues and escalate where appropriate.
  • Other related duties, as assigned

 

We are looking for a strong team player with a great attitude and the following qualifications:

  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in a related field (i.e. Public or Business Administration or equivalent) OR a combination of education and related experience may be considered
  • A minimum 5 years of investigative experience as a sworn police officer working within a law enforcement environment
  • Working experience data mining CPIC, PRIME, PIRS, PROS and other law enforcement databases
  • Knowledge of BC Provincial Statutes
  • Knowledge of the Criminal Records Review Act, the Criminal Records Act, the Security Services Act, the Youth Criminal Justice Act (Canada), the Criminal Code, and working knowledge of the Freedom of Information and Privacy Act
  • Strong working knowledge of the British Columbia Guideline for Police Information Checks (BC-PIC) and information sharing
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Intermediate knowledge of Adobe Acrobat
  • Strong data mining skills using multiple police databases
  • Accuracy and attention to detail
  • Strong organization skills with the ability to respond to changing priorities and manage multiple tasks concurrently with shifting deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently and/or within a team, in a high-pressure environment
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality, tact and diplomacy
  • Demonstrated integrity and dependability
  • Demonstrated ability to use sound professional judgement when analyzing numerous law enforcement documents to determine the relevancy in assessing safety / risk to children and vulnerable adults.
  • Strong data mining skills using multiple police databases
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Ability to apply critical thinking skills to accurately summarize and collate relevant information gathered through multiple police databases
  • Ability to evaluate collated information against set criteria and/or interpretation of Acts, Legislations and/or Policies
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external contacts
  • Ability to adapt to and work effectively within a variety of diverse situations and with diverse individuals or groups
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a RCMP security clearance. Candidates with an active RCMP clearance would be an asset.

 

Annual Salary: $80,964.00 – $84,181.50 – $87,399.00 – $90,597.00 – $93,814.50

This is a civilian unionized position with CUPE 718, working 37.50 hours per week. Rates negotiated in the new collective agreement with CUPE 718 will be applied to the current annual salary effective April 1, 2025.

A pool of candidates may be established to staff additional positions in the future.
