Working within the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit – BC (CFSEU-BC), British Columbia’s integrated anti-gang police agency, the Organized Crime Agency of BC (OCABC) is recruiting for multiple Outreach Case Managers to assist in conducting intervention strategies for gang entrenched individuals and assist gang-involved individuals who want to exit the gang lifestyle.
Working under the direct supervision of the Outreach Supervisor – GIET, these positions will be responsible for:
• Assisting the Outreach Coordinator – GIET with the development of individualized case management plans, including identifying resources to support the client
• Building strong relationships with program clients, stakeholders and community service providers to better advocate for client needs and services
• Conducting interviews with clients who may have emotional, physical or mental conditions that may present barriers to communication
• Providing input into case management and supervision to clients, including establishing and monitoring short and long term goals/needs, and outlining client obligations/accountabilities
• Participating in case management meetings with community partners to coordinate service, share information and problem solve to enhance overall client service
• Promoting public awareness of the program and participating in the delivery of educational services by conducting presentations and information sessions with various stakeholder groups
• Working with GIET Officers to develop and implement intervention strategies for gang involved individuals
• Developing and implementing case management strategies for individuals who want to exit the gang lifestyle
• Compiling and inputting client profile summaries using police databases to determine program eligibility and risk levels
• Completing client assessments to aid with the development of client case management plans
• Providing information on available resource services and make appropriate referrals
• Assessing on-going needs, providing practical support and appropriate crisis response to clients and their families and/or friends to help deal with issues stemming from the client’s gang involvement
• Maintaining client case files, updating information systems and preparing reports, as needed
• Other related duties, as required
We are looking for enthusiastic self-starters who can work under pressure and stress with the ability to handle crisis/intervention with the following qualifications:
• Bachelor’s/Associates degree in a Social Science discipline (i.e. social work, criminology, psychology)
• Minimum 2 years experience in a justice, educational or social service setting that involves working with high risk populations including those involved in gangs or the criminal justice system
• Knowledge and understanding of the BC gang landscape would be an asset
• Ability to work with high-risk clients and families facing challenges which may occasionally involve exposure to unpleasant dealings with angry, abusive or abused clients and/or exposure to hazards from working around volatile family members
• Ability to communicate in an appropriate manner orally and in writing
• Ability to use Excel to extract and analyze data
• Ability to effectively use standard computer applications
• Ability to be flexible and work evenings and weekends on short notice may be required
• Ability to obtain and maintain a RCMP police security clearance. Candidates with an active RCMP clearance would be an asset
Annual Salary: $76,752.00 — $79,794.00 — $82,855.50 — $85,878.00 — $88,939.50
This is a civilian unionized position with CUPE 718, working 37.50 hours per week. Rates negotiated in the new collective agreement with CUPE 718 will be applied to the current annual salary effective April 1, 2025.
This position requires in-office attendance.
A pool of candidates may be established to staff additional positions in the future.
